David Yochlowitz, CEO
David leads ABC Recycling as its Chief Executive Officer. During David’s three decades with ABC Recycling he has helped grow the company from one location to nine across BC and Alberta.
David holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Diploma in Administrative Management from BCIT. He is also a Cabinet Member of the BC Women’s Hospital Foundation Newborn ICU Campaign and in 2011 he received the BCIT Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2001, David was named to the "Top 40 under 40," an award given out to British Columbia's top business achievers under the age of 40. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, hiking and travelling with his family.
Harold Yochlowitz, President
Harold joined ABC Recycling in 1961, working alongside his late father Daniel, and his brother Melvyn. Throughout his 5+ decades with ABC, Harold has led or been involved in every aspect of this business and has witnessed its evolution from a small company to a major enterprise. As President of his 4th generation family owned business, Harold’s great vision and ideas have helped propel ABC Recycling to where it is today. Outside of work, Harold enjoys golfing and spending time in Palm Desert with his wife.
Dirk Odenwald, CFO
Dirk joined ABC Recycling in 1996 as Controller and in 2005 assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer. Dirk is a Certified Professional Accountant, designated as a CGA in 1996. Prior to joining ABC, Dirk was an auditor with the accounting firm of Manning Elliott.
Dirk is also the Treasurer of the Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT), and past Treasurer of the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries (CARI) BC. He is the Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee of the BBOT, and has also served on the Government Relations Committee and Social Development Committee of the BBOT. Outside of work, Dirk coached junior soccer for many years. He loves tennis and travel.
Mike Yochlowitz, Vice President Operations
Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria. He is currently serving as Secretary Treasurer on the national board of the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries and has previously served as President of Pacific Northwest chapter of Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries. Outside of work, Mike enjoys travelling, outdoor activities, and spending time with his wife and their dog.
Randy Kahlon, Director Business Development and Sales
Randy is responsible for ABC Recycling’s business development, corporate branding and strategic procurement activities throughout their regional network. He brings over 10 years of diverse experience and excels on employee development and strategic account management programs. Prior to joining ABC in 2013, Randy worked in multiple industries, ranging from material handling and construction equipment sales to food importation and distribution.
Randy holds a BBA and Diploma of Technology in International Trade and Logistics from BCIT. He serves on the Environmental Committee of the Surrey Board of Trade as well as the BCIT International Business Management Program Advisory Committee. Outside of work, Randy volunteers his time with local youth soccer clubs and stays very busy with his two young children and wife.
Farbod Mirhashemy, Director Human Resources
Farbod oversees all of the Human Resources function for ABC and its subsidiaries. Farbod has over 10 years of HR experience, working with employee bases across all of Canada and in the United States.
Farbod has a Bachelor of Commerce in Industrial Relations Management from the University of British Columbia.
Karen Bichin, Manager Community Relations
Karen directs and oversees all of the social responsibility, community relations, donations and charitable campaign activities at ABC Recycling.
Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Concordia University. Karen is the Vice President of the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise, Vancouver Chapter Board. Outside of work, Karen serves as Chair of the Parent Advisory Council of the Karen & Gary Simkin Family Child Development Centre. In 2014, Karen received the President’s Award for Volunteer Service from the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver. She enjoys yoga, cooking, art and spending time with her husband and two sons.
John Anderson, Director of Maintenance
John is responsible for all maintenance management throughout ABC Recycling’s plants and facilities, bringing 38 years of prior trade experience. Before joining ABC in 2013, John worked for a number of national and international companies, holding senior positions in maintenance and operations.
John is a Commercial Vehicle Mechanic and a Heavy Duty Mechanic, both Red Seal qualifications. He is also a Commercial Vehicle Inspector, Diesel Engineer Electronics Technician, and a Certified Plant Maintenance Manager.
Outside of work, John enjoys playing golf and squash now and again.

Dave Miller, Regional Manager Vancouver Island
Dave Miller joined ABC Recycling in 2013, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in the scrap metal business. In 1996 Dave started working at Budget Steel, doing every job in the yard from truck driver, welder, general operations, and in 2000 he was managing their Campbell River facility. From Budget he moved to Amix, eventually becoming the General Manager for Schnitzer Canada.
Dave is an avid outdoorsman, and lives for hunting and fishing.
